Today’s Zenbe Release and What’s Ahead

June 6th, 2008 by Tom Alison ·

Today we released some upgrades to Zenbe. The main change is some big improvements to our main calendar tab. You should notice better rendering performance and a simplified user interface. Use the gear in the upper right-corner of the calendar to add new calendars and manage existing ones. Also, good news for Safari users - the main calendar now works in Safari.

Another improvement we made was speeding up how quickly you receive messages at your zenbe.com address. The lags you used to experience are gone. You should receive email sent to your zenbe.com email address almost instantaneously.

A lot of people have been asking what we’re up to at Zenbe. Here are the main features we’re focusing on providing in the next few releases:

  • The ability to permanently delete your messages.
  • An IMAP interface to Zenbe.
  • A conversation view of your messages similar to Gmail. For non-Gmail users who are unfamiliar with conversation view this is similar to a threaded email view.
  • A few new integrations with external services in our Quickview sidebar, similar to our Facebook module. We’re keeping the details under wraps for now.

Additionally, we’re continuing to squash bugs, make our user interface easier to use, and improve system stability and performance. And we hope to provide a surprise or two that we think you’ll really like.

Thank you to all of the beta users who have provided us feedback so far. If you haven’t had a chance, please go register at our forums and let us know what you think.

I would just add - conversation view is huge to me so I love that you guys are working on that…

One thing I like about Apple Mail is that they have the stationary templates which I’ve used many times for parties, etc.

Also… I really miss having the instant messaging capabilities available in Gmail…

I am very happy with Zenbe, actually I plan to switch from my old Yahoo account. There are only a few comments I have about what is otherwise one of the best email services I’ve seen:

-Notepad: a place to write a few notes would come in handy

-Color Themes, although the standard theme is very nice, it would be great if you could just select from a range of colors, just as you can do in the Zen pages.

-IMAP: hadn’t thought of that but yes, it would great to check my Zenbe mail in my Nokia Tablet on an external mail client.

-Igoogle gadget/ Zenbe Notifier: It would be nice to see just if I have unread messages on Zenbe along with a subject and sender preview.

-I know this is a very tricky one, but it would that “integration to external services” sounds tempting. I hope you can include Ning on the services you can access via Quickview.

    Keep up the great work!!!

    A happy Zenbe user

I think that Zenbe has the chance to surpass Gmail. Conversation view will help, but I hope that one of the “things we will like” is chat functionality. I’m currently a Zenbe/Gmail user and would like to see chat integrated eventually.

Great work so far guys. The experience is truly zen-like.

Please consider integration with Remember the Milk instead of having yet another task list. This would the killer feature that would get me to switch from Gmail.
