Version 1.1 of Zenbe Lists now available

July 17th, 2008 by Robert · comments · http://blog.zenbe.com/smnij

Good news, Apple has approved v1.1 of our iPhone Lists app!  Before you get too excited, know that we submitted this version to the App Store on July 7th, before we had any of the outstanding feedback everyone has been sending in.  Sadly, this means that none of the bugs that have been driving you (and us) crazy have  been fixed yet.  Instead, it’s just a minor update for…

  • Simpler “share” emails – we’ve simplified the verbage contained in emails that are sent when sharing a list with someone.
  • Now using the correct server name for share links.
  • Various UI tweaks and improvements – nothing too notable.

We’re already looking forward to getting v1.2 out there for you to play with.  Look forward to a batch of new features and fixes for bugs, including the now infamous “can’t see the last item” bug.

In other news, we’ve learned the hard way that you need to be really careful what you put in your Terms of Service.  The most popular (and therefore, first) comment on our App Store page is the one that provides an out-of-context (and now obsolete) quote from the section on, “Your Intellectual Property Rights”.  I’ll be the first to admit it sounds pretty scary, but it was intended simply to make sure we had the right to copy and publish your content in ways necessary to do all the stuff you’ve come to expect of Zenbe: backup your data, make content you share available to the people you want to share it with… that sort of thing.  Regardless, we’ve updated our Terms to be less threatening, so hopefully there’s longer any cause for concern.

While it’s unfortunate that this is the first comment users see for our app, I can’t tell you how pleased we are at all the nice things everyone has had to say about us.  This has been a great first week for us and the praise and feedback has been a real moreal booster.  So, “Thanks!”

Really good app guys, however, my iPod touch lists are not synching with Zenbe on the web… No idea what could be happening…

  2. Robert says:

Make sure you’re using the right site – you should be looking for your lists at http://lists.zenbe.com (not our main website). Several of users have been confused by this. If that’s not the problem, can you provide more information about what is or is not happening? (Please use our forums at http://forums.zenbe.com or email us at feedback@zenbe.com)

  3. B. Ramirez says:

Hi. Love the app! Is there a reason why when I try to update to v 1.1 in the iTunes store, I still get v 1.0? Thanks!

  4. Robert says:

@B. Ramirez: Unfortunately we’re as much in the dark about how the App Store works as our users. I do know that other users (including various people in here in our office) have been able to update succesfully. You might try using iTunes to remove the app, then re-install it again from iTunes.

  5. brent says:

Zenbe is the best list app for the iPhone, i even got a few of my friends using it now. but a friend of mine found a bug. when you create lists over 8 things the last one is not viewable. you can pull the page up with your finger to see the last idem but when you let go it is hidden again. i think it is aligning with the bottom of the iPhone screen rather then the bottom of the “sync” and “share” bar. hope this made since. thanks.

  6. brent says:

never mind, i just read about the issue.

  7. Sameer says:

I have found the same problem as brent. Whenever list is bigger (more than one iphone page), I am not able to get to the last items and this happens in both edit or view mode. It scrolls down but can not position to last item. So If I am consuming grocery list and the item I want to check is at the bottom then currently I am not able to do so.

  8. Nate says:

hey – what’s up with that one iTunes reviewer’s note about your terms of service? Is the following accurate?

“By transmitting any content, you expressly grant, and you represent and warrant that you have a right to grant, to Zenbe a royalty-free, sub-licensable, transferable, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, list information regarding, edit, translate, distribute, publicly perform, publicly, display, and make derivative works of your content and your name, voice, and/or likeness as contained in your content.”

  9. Robert says:

The iTunes App Store comment in question is no longer accurate. We updated our Terms as soon as we realized just how absurd that section sounded when taken out of context. It now reads:

    Your Intellectual Property Rights

Zenbe does not claim any ownership for any of the content, including any text, data, images, photographs, video, music, sound, or any other material, that you upload, receive, send, or store in your Zenbe account. Zenbe retains the right to manipulate or duplicate your content as necessary to provide you and other users with the Service. Zenbe will not use any of your content for any purpose except to provide you and other users with the Service.

The irony here is that we haven’t actually changed the intent or function of this section of our Terms at all. We do need some rights if you want us to make backup copies of your data or share it with your friends. Our original wording was just poorly chosen.

  10. If I started to sing praises for this product, I wouldn’t get anything done. I tried omnifocus, then Things… and finally, FINALLY a simple solution to capture my projects and tasks.

Hey Covey and Allen: SIMPLICITY is the way to get things done.

    Thanks guys!!

  11. Well my honeymoon ended mighty quickly (I should’ve known…). After transfering all of my lists to my zenbe list page on Firefox (appx 10 or so), odd things started happening, and then a fatal flaw.

    1) I was able to edit the titles of some, but not all titles
    2) I wasn’t able to enter tasks under some titles
    3) To fix the above, I tried logging out, and then in, only to discover that all my newly made lists vanished. Sigh…do I even bother recreating them again?

  12. Tried it again, on-line, and after entering 8 or 9 tasks the whole proces gets buggy, when I refreshed the page, I had only 6 tasks left standing.

To make matters worse, I tried leaving this comment on your forum, and the password your sent me wouldn’t work.

Am I the only one having this problem on-line? I haven’t even tried the iPhone version yet.

Using Firefox 3.0.1, Black MacBook fully loaded.

  13. Sorry about the repeated posts, but I’m unable to sign into your forum.

So I was able to add 4-5 more lists to my current 6, so clearly it’s not a numbers issue. Perhaps your servers are wonky, or I’m using characters that aren’t allowed. Either way, I’m going to hold off on using your zenbe lists until I hear back from you (feel free to email me directly, or post a comment).

  14. Back with an update…
zenbe is much more zen-like today…

    * lists appear to be working
    * was able to log into forum

    Was there a problem yesterday?

  15. Debbie says:

Just discovered that I need to sync with lists.zenbe and when I found it my first list was there. However I’ve just added a second list, and amended the first, and nothing happened.

Also, is there any chance that lists could be integrated into the main zenbe site?

    Cheers,

    Debbie

  16. Dan says:

A quick workaround for the “can’t see the last item issue:” I create a dummy item in each list. After checking it off, it goes to the bottom of the list leaving the real items visible and workable. Just don’t ever delete the dummy item.

  17. Eric says:

Great App guys! Appreciate it very much! Look forward to where you take and all us early birds will be ahead of the curve!! Thanks! Eric
